Magic Wallets are not really magic!

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

I guess thats not really a news flash.  But to my 8 year old anything with the word magic attched to it has, well… a magical quality to it.  Tinkerbell used her “magical” fairy dust to help Peter Pan fly.  So it only makes sense that when our friend showed my daughter her “magic” wallet that she assumed it must have been touched with some type of tinkerbellian fairy dust!  Well, after studying it for a few minutes she declared, “Magic wallets are not really magic”.  How she came to that conclusion is beyond me, but she had a certain certainity about her voice that made you think that she had noticed something.  I guess if one looks closely at the way a magic wallet is made they can begin to see the simple, yet ingenious design.  Those two words might seem like an oxymoron, but I do not believe they are.  Two sides of a wallet joined by interlacing stretchy rubber in a “X” fashion.  Could anything seem simpler?  Yet when they flip back and forth, they lift from one side to the other, allowing money, etc to be trapped in the wallet.  I guess it does have a certain “magical” quality about it.  I have seen friends play with them for long periods of time.  They open and close them, putting in money or cards, or other things.  They study it as if they are figuring out the magic, they are out to disprove the magic.  Much like my 8 year old, who I guess did figure it out.  I do not think that Tinkerbell made her rounds to the wallet manufacturers, so I think its safe to say they are just fun.  Kind of like a rubiks cube or that game with the golf tees and the triangle peg board.  Haven’t seen those in awhile…you would think restaurants would be smarter and get more of those.  Check out the magical wallets that aren’t really magic at www.myuniquewallets.com.  You might not see Tinkerbell, but they are fun to play with!

Braithwaite Wallets

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

A unique wallet that men can get is a Braithwaite wallet.  Found at www.Brathwaitewallets.com there is only five special designs to pick from.  Judging from the pictures, these unique wallets seem to be used by mostly men in Europe.  Or at least that is their target area.  There are only five different designs for a Braithwaite wallet.  The “rapture”, the “orpheus”, “the sunrise”, “Cypress” and “The Vagabond”.  Each design is unique, having small features that differentiate it from the others.  The “Rapture” is very small and thin, the “Orpheus” has slots for coins, “The Vagabond” is a zipper wallet.  To see the small differences with each wallet, go to www.braithwaitewallets.com and see for yourself.  The wallets are not cheap though.  They are pretty expensive as far as wallets go.  They range from $97 to $137 for one.  And currently, the $97 wallet, the “Cypress” is out of stock.  One additional item that these wallets offer that is uncommon is their “Lost wallet promise”.  They have a written policy for their wallets that states if you ever lose your braithwaite wallet, or have it stolen, they will replace it for free.  All you need to do is write or email the company that you’ve lost it and they will replace it for you.  They feel like they have a certain type of client who uses their wallet and that they wouldn’t be dishonest about it (this is what their policy states).  So they have this promise attached to all their wallets.  Seems pretty cool, and probably fairly safe for the company considering the cost of the wallet.  Meaning that your average guy won’t be spending over $100 on a wallet, so they can offer this.  As a company Braithwaite has lofty goals.  First, they want to create the most innovative wallets possible, they feel that most wallets are “boring”.  They also want to treat their customers with excellence.  They believe that having a good relationship with the person they sell to that things in the world will be better.  I find this admirable, but wonder how that really plays out for them.  I think the idea is good and expect that same kind of high level of customer service to come from www.myuniquewallets.com. I am unsure about the “promise” policy, but it has merit.  I will look into that more as well.

Coupon Wallet Organizer

Monday, April 19th, 2010

What a great way to organize your coupons!  Not only can you organize your coupons but these organizers hang from your shopping cart so that you can use your unique wallet while shopping.  At www.myuniquewallets.com there are alot of great designs that can be picked from also.  Another great place to find coupon wallet organizers is at www.thecouponwallet.com.  There is a great selection at the couponwallet.com.  The founder started on her own making a coupon organizer for herself.  This eventually was so well liked that she began selling the coupon wallets.  What a great idea to organize your coupons in a wallet size organizer that can hang on the grocery cart.  There are many great designs that are offered at www.myuniquewallets.com.  The most popular design is the black and white Purse Size Coupon Organizer Wallet.  It is mostly an off white color with a black sketched picture of a woman with her child.  There are many other popular designs for the Purse Size Coupon Organizer Wallet.  The next most popular designs are rainbow, striped pastel and brown with pink polka dots.  The great thing is that there many different kinds of styles so that you can find the wallet that best fits your personality.  Some other designs are brown with blue polka dots, paisley, butterfly and plaid.  If you are the type of person who likes to organize things, this is a great thing for you.  Do you have a friend or family member who is really into organizing things, likes to cut coupons?  What a great gift this is for that person.  Best of all you can pick from many different styles at www.myuniquewallets.com.  Even though the coupon wallet is not really a wallet in a true form, it still can be found on the uniquewallets.com site.  There is an “almost wallets” section that has items that are not fully wallets, but have the same idea.  Be sure to check the selection out.

Window wallets

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I currently have a wallet that is not really a wallet.  I have a folding leather peice that has a window on the front.  I currently use the window to slide small cards in and out with bible verses on them.  I like to use the window with the verses in them to remind throughout the day of the verse.  Often the verse will be the current memory verse that I am reviewing.  The little “wallet” I use is traditionally called a verse pack.  It has pockets on the inside for extra cards that have the verse on them.  For years I have kept my license, a few credit cards and cash (folded in half) in the verse pack.  They do not fit in the pockets on the inside because the verse pack is too small.  So they just sit in between the folded leather.  This has posed a problem or two of course.  My things can be prone to fall out of the “wallet” if I drop it or something like that.  I also have a to take a second to thumb thru the cards to find the one I need.  Although I don’t think I’m much slower than the average person at getting to the card I need.  I just have fewer cards.  I also don’t have enough room to hold the “extra” cards one might want to have.  Gift cards, membership cards (like video places), coupon cards and other identity cards I have to keep in a real wallet in my car.  I rarely use these type of cards, but there has been times when I have wanted one of those cards but didn’t have it with me because it was in my car.  I would love something that had a window but carried more cards and was actually a wallet.  I don’t want to give up my habit with the bible verses and I don’t want to carry two things (I already have to carry a cell phone too!).  I realize that not alot of folks would have a desire to have a wallet that has a bible verse window.  But maybe folks would like a wallet with a window on the front?  You could slide pictures in it?  Or maybe your favorite saying?  I am hopeful that www.myuniquewallets.com can offer something in the future that fills this idea.  Not much comes up when searching for window picture wallets.  But maybe….

Heroes wallets? 24 Wallets? The Office wallets?

Eventually our site, www.myuniquewallets.com will carry these things!  There are a number of tv shows that my wife and I love to watch.  They are the same shows that are most popular among Americans.  We are never able to catch the shows at their sloted times, our schedules are too busy.  However, we are able to rent the DVD’s of the shows and then watch them at night as we are getting in bed.  The only problem is that we are always a season behind everyone else.  So we have to keep people from sharing future details with us by accident.  I have always wondered why there weren’t more wallets designed in conjunction with people’s favorite tv shows.  When we’re young the only kind of wallet we want is a Barbie wallet or a Superman wallet.  We want a wallet that reminds us and others of our favorite things.  But if you search for wallets that are tv show related it is hard to find much.  I guess its because as we get older we are less into whatever we like and more concerned about how others might percieve our stuff, or us.

I think that people should be more diligent about being themselves and having things they want or like.  Every male wallet is essentially the same - leather color, bi-fold, tri-fold, etc.  Where’s the personality of the wallet holder?  We ought to be more into unique wallets, unique because each person is unique.  Your wallet goes with you everywhere, it is something you use probably only second to your cell phone.  Why not be more creative, show your personality thru your wallet?  Why not let go some of how others might judge you and just enjoy what you like?  I hope that the idea of having a unique wallet catches on more.  There are some out there, that’s for sure.  And I’m sure anyone reading this is already sold on this idea given the name of the site… but let’s encourage more diversity out there for something like our wallets!

Python and other reptile wallets

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Python wallets.  Just came across another cool wallet idea.  I think this one would be a better seller amongst guys instead of girls.  But there are a bunch of snakeskin female wallets too.  Pretty cool stuff, the python wallet.  Just the name of it has a cool ring to it.  Stingray wallets!  Supposedly one of the more durable materials that come in these unusual styles for wallets.  Although the stingray wallet style does not look that appealling, it has a really rough bumpy look to it!  How cool that these kind of wallets exist - we’re going to have to look into these python, stingray, crocidile, alligator and snakeskin wallets!

The bike inner tube wallet

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I’ve come across a new personal favorite of mine.  I have enjoyed looking into all the different varieties of wallets that are out there.  Especially the unique wallets that are out there for men.  My wife has been looking into alot of womens wallets and unique womens wallets.  Most of the uniqueness in womens wallets seems to be focused around the design, the designer and the overall patterns.  The style can also be unique for women, it can be anywhere from a bi-fold size wallet all the way up to handbag in size.  So lots of uniqueness in those regards.  But for men it is different.   The uniqueness of a man’s wallet does not seem to change much in regard to size, or designers.  A man’s wallet is usually around the same size, bi-fold size.  There doesn’t seem to be much interest out there for anything bigger than what can fit in your pocket.  Although daily planners are still used and out there, they are a different market it seems.  The uniqueness of a man’s wallet also doesn’t seem to have much to do with the designer either.  Men don’t seem to pay too much attention to the brand or designer.  Men surely want quality, but it seems that most feel like it can found with most basic manufacturers.  So the uniqueness of men’s wallets seems to be found in the material.  It also can be found in small changes that can be made to the structure of the wallet.  My new favorite unique men’s wallet is the inner tube wallet.  The material is creative, yet durable.  It has cool look to it that many men would really like.  I could forsee problems in that cash and other things might stick to the rubber, but if that were fixed it seems to be pretty cool.  I found an inner tube wallet on etsy.com - they are usually pretty good at carrying some unique wallets.    Etsy gives people chances to set up little “shops” to sell craft like products that they make.  It’s kind of like an online flea market for people all over the world.  The inner tube wallet I found was made by a woman in Denmark.  You can always find unique things on etsy.com.

Olympic wallets

Monday, February 15th, 2010

An easy design for a wallet would be an olympic designed wallet.  Would people be interested in such a wallet?  It is only once every four (or two if you count both summer and winter) and only lasts about two weeks.  But if you look at the most popular shows on tv, the summer and winter olympics get really high ratings.  So it is safe to say that many people are into the winter and summer olympics.  But when the olympics are not going it might not be so cool to have an olympic wallet.  What style might an olympic wallet have?  Well an easy design would be the olympic rings on a wallet.  Other ideas might be to have a winter olympic style or a summer olympic style.  Like a wallet colored white, gray and blue for a winter olympic wallet.  Of course an easy idea would be a wallet that could represent your favorite country, or your favorite athlete.  Some winter olympic sports are more interesting than others.  Some sports like hockey and downhill skiing are staples of the winter olympics.  Figure skating has a large following, but not a very young or male following.  Recently, extreme winter sports, like freestyle snowboard jumping have been getting more of a following.  Not sure how you could do it, but it would be nice to have a wallet that matched your favorite winter sport on a wallet, or have something to do with the sport you like best.  I am not sure what the big draw is for the winter olympics.  I think that the country competition aspect just makes you want to root for your country in every event.  So each event has a great appeal to it.  The 15km freestyle cross country skiing is on today and there aren’t any Americans in the top 20 and so it’s not very exciting to watch.  Guess thats the big draw.  Would that same drawing power work with wallets?

The Flipside Wallet

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Anyone heard of RFID?  This stands for Radio Frequency Identification.  This is a term used for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify people or objects.  You may be unaware that many credit card carriers are using this technology in place of the magnetic strip cards. In fact, you may already be carrying an RFID enabled card in your wallet and not even know it.  These cards are often referred to as smartcards.

A small microchip and antenna communicate with an RFID reader.  The RFID  is able to store large amounts of data and makes check out more convenient and faster.  The major issue with the RFID readers is that thieves are now scanning other’s information by using their own RFID readers without ever touching the victim’s card.  The readers can gain the information right through someone’s wallet anywhere from 1 to 15 feet away.

So here is where the Flipside Wallet is introduced.  The Flipside Wallet is made of durable polymers and alluminum alloys.  It closes and locks valuables inside.  This lock prevents the wallet from accidently opening and losing items inside.  It conveniently flips open like your standard cellular flip phone.  Finally, and most importantly, is has an RFID shielding mechanism that prevents RFID theft of credit cards.

The Flipside Wallet comes in various colors.  Go to www.flipsidewallet.com to see more details

The Magic Wallet

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

I know you have all frantically searched through your wallet looking for your card.  Whether it’s a discount card, your local library card or your Discover credit card, the right one can be hard to find.  This becomes especially difficult when there is a line of people behind you waiting for you to finish so that they can check out.  Fortunately, the people at ACM Wallet have come up with a patented design to help solve your problem.

The ACM Wallet allows you to access a specified card at the push of a button.  They sell a 6 card wallet and a 12 card wallet.  Each wallet contains a card space feature that prevents your cards from demagnetization, scratches and premature failure of the magnetic strip.  You simply press the labled button on the outside of your wallet, and the card slides out of a slot for you to grap and use.  Each wallet comes with 18 interchangeable button icon pads.  The buttons are printed with logos for your major credit cards, drivers license, gas, medical and more.

The original featherweight ACM Wallet is coated with a traditional aluminum brushed finish.  The ACM HYBRID Wallet comes with a chrome top and black rubber gripper bottom.  Now, the ACM Wallet comes in multiple colors by using the popular rubber polymer coating around the entire wallet.  Go to www.acmwallet.com for more information.

I like the thought of this wallet in conjunction with a more traditional wallet for coins, checks and cash.  It definitely beats panically searching for that one card in the midst of a rush!
