Magic Wallets are not really magic!

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

I guess thats not really a news flash.  But to my 8 year old anything with the word magic attched to it has, well… a magical quality to it.  Tinkerbell used her “magical” fairy dust to help Peter Pan fly.  So it only makes sense that when our friend showed my daughter her “magic” wallet that she assumed it must have been touched with some type of tinkerbellian fairy dust!  Well, after studying it for a few minutes she declared, “Magic wallets are not really magic”.  How she came to that conclusion is beyond me, but she had a certain certainity about her voice that made you think that she had noticed something.  I guess if one looks closely at the way a magic wallet is made they can begin to see the simple, yet ingenious design.  Those two words might seem like an oxymoron, but I do not believe they are.  Two sides of a wallet joined by interlacing stretchy rubber in a “X” fashion.  Could anything seem simpler?  Yet when they flip back and forth, they lift from one side to the other, allowing money, etc to be trapped in the wallet.  I guess it does have a certain “magical” quality about it.  I have seen friends play with them for long periods of time.  They open and close them, putting in money or cards, or other things.  They study it as if they are figuring out the magic, they are out to disprove the magic.  Much like my 8 year old, who I guess did figure it out.  I do not think that Tinkerbell made her rounds to the wallet manufacturers, so I think its safe to say they are just fun.  Kind of like a rubiks cube or that game with the golf tees and the triangle peg board.  Haven’t seen those in awhile…you would think restaurants would be smarter and get more of those.  Check out the magical wallets that aren’t really magic at www.myuniquewallets.com.  You might not see Tinkerbell, but they are fun to play with!

Passport and Travel Wallets

Friday, May 21st, 2010

What makes a great passport or travel wallet?  This is the kind of thing that only an avid international traveler could answer well.  Unfortunately I am not one of those people, so I did some asking and some research into what people think are important.  One of the first things that came up was the obvious… security and passport slot.  Seems that when you tavel it is important to be able to get to your important things quickly.  Of course your passport is like your drivers license is to us in America.  So you need that passport everywhere you go.  And everyone wants a travel wallet that fits that comfortably.  Of course as with most wallets, everyone is concerned about security.  That is the point of a wallet, right?  Keeps your important things like cash, credit cards, and passports close to you and secured in something.  I guess when traveling internationally this is more important than in the US.  Seems most folks I talked to have a lingering concern when they travel abroad that they are not quite as safe as they are at home.  I don’t know if that’s actually true, like statistically speaking.  But either way this is why you have some popular passport or travel wallets that come with a strap to wear around your neck.  Having your personal things around your neck is an extra precaution to be sure your stuff is kept safe.  Check out the great selection of passport wallets and travel wallets at the unique wallet site.

Stingray leather

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

In Japan it is referred to as “Honzame”.  In Europe it is refered to as “Shagreen”. The stingray skin has been utilized worldwide for centuries because of its beauty and durability. It is the most durable leather used on the planet.  The inherent qualities of the Stingray skin make it so durable in fact, that it is resistant to water, fire, puncture, tearing, and abrasion.  It is often referred to as “immortal” and jewel of the sea because of its durablity. Stingray leather will not burn, break or fray, yet it can be cut with a standard pair of scissors. It is perhaps most famous for its utilization on Japanese sword handles.  Stingray leather has been used throughout history, most notably in Japan, for everything from armor and sword handle wraps to high quality wallets, handbags, and even sandpaper.   It was also very popular and widely used on American and European swords and daggers. In Egypt when the tombs of ancient pharaohs were discovered, stingray leather was found to be used as armor, decoration and ornamental embellishment. More recently, stingray can often be seen in pieces  of furniture, crafts, eyeglass cases, parasol umbrellas, handbags and many other products. Stingray leather is in the midst of a worldwide fashion revival.  In the 1920’s Art Deco period, polished stingray leather, also known as shagreen, was at its fashionable peak covering everything from furniture to jewelry boxes. Now, due to its exotic beauty and its reputation as the worlds’ most durable leather, stingray is growing in popularity.  One things that many ask about is the killing of stingrays.  But leather itself comes from the hides of animals.  And stingrays are neither endangered nor threatened and are found in abundance in the shallow, warm waters of the world. Specifically, throughout the Pacific Rim, Stingrays are fished commercially as a primary food source just like cattle or pigs. It’s unique beauty is highlighted by the shiny pebbly texture of the skin, along with a one-of-a-kind design feature - the bony remnant of the dorsal fin that resembles a tiny cluster of “pearls”.   Today, stingray is still used for many of the above as well as knife sheaths, knife handles, wallets, belts, handbags, boots, and other accessories.  There is a wallet that Hammacher Schummer sells that is made of Stingray.  Here is what they say about it:

“This is the wallet handmade with an exterior of 100% genuine stingray skin, the same durable material used for centuries by Japanese swordsmiths as a wrap for weapon hilts to ensure a confident, lasting grip. Considered by many to be the toughest wallet material in the world, the resilient stingray skin withstands the daily stresses placed on a wallet, ensuring years of reliable use without the fading, cracking, or unraveling common to typical wallets. The stingray skin is naturally moisture-resistant without the need for special cleaning techniques or preservative treatments. The exterior of the wallet is decorated with a “crown” named for the center of the dorsal skin near to where the ray’s barb extruded, but has been sanded smooth during the tanning process. “

Coupon Wallets

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

I have been doing some research into Coupon Wallets and the companies that make and sell them.  We hope to carry a great selection of them at www.myuniquewallets.com.  But there’s not much out there, but its really highly searched.  The coupon wallet seems to be a wallet small enough to fit on your purse and then velcros onto the shopping cart.  This is a great advantage.

www.TheCouponWallet.com – has her own site, its number one searched on google.  The site seems to have been started by a mom who wanted a better way to organize her coupons.  She made a new organizer and eventually began selling them.  Theis turned out really well it seems, because now she has a great looking site with lots of traffic and is selling her coupon wallets.  Takes a pretty good mom to raise a family and make a business idea work!

CR Gibson – number one on google shopping.  Nice coupon wallets, hopefully we can make a good connection with them.

Jaclyn Smith – number two on google shopping.  Very large company, making lots of things.  Brand name basically.  They will probably be too big for us to work with initially, but we’ll see.

4 best bargains – number 3 on google shopping, number 1 on amazon and had most by far - I think they make the “purse size deluxe coupon organizer wallet”  They hid the maker well if its not them.  There seem to be a lot of these on amazon.  As a company they dont look like a manufacturer, but they say they are.  They have a “made in the USA” logo.  They have 72 patterns and styles for the Purse Size Coupon wallet organizer.  Interesting too that they use five key words to describe every wallet.

Buxton – number one on amazon in clothing section.  Buxton is a highly searched wallet maker.  We would really like to make a connection with them and their wallets.  Hopefully we will not only be selling their coupon wallets, but other mens and womens wallets as well.

Silver hooks inc – number two amazon-in clothing, carry several kinds of wallets (key words – flat, clutch, snake, checkbook, pink, purple, alligator, cell phone, opera, white, flower, red, eco-friendly, black, tire, animal, giraffe).  They seem to have a lot of animal print and creative print wallets.

Hannah Hansen and Jokari are two other companies making good selling coupon wallets.  But these guys were smaller, or were selling less than the other comapnies listed here.

Hopefully we can sell all these on www.myuniquewallets.com soon.

Braithwaite Wallets

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

A unique wallet that men can get is a Braithwaite wallet.  Found at www.Brathwaitewallets.com there is only five special designs to pick from.  Judging from the pictures, these unique wallets seem to be used by mostly men in Europe.  Or at least that is their target area.  There are only five different designs for a Braithwaite wallet.  The “rapture”, the “orpheus”, “the sunrise”, “Cypress” and “The Vagabond”.  Each design is unique, having small features that differentiate it from the others.  The “Rapture” is very small and thin, the “Orpheus” has slots for coins, “The Vagabond” is a zipper wallet.  To see the small differences with each wallet, go to www.braithwaitewallets.com and see for yourself.  The wallets are not cheap though.  They are pretty expensive as far as wallets go.  They range from $97 to $137 for one.  And currently, the $97 wallet, the “Cypress” is out of stock.  One additional item that these wallets offer that is uncommon is their “Lost wallet promise”.  They have a written policy for their wallets that states if you ever lose your braithwaite wallet, or have it stolen, they will replace it for free.  All you need to do is write or email the company that you’ve lost it and they will replace it for you.  They feel like they have a certain type of client who uses their wallet and that they wouldn’t be dishonest about it (this is what their policy states).  So they have this promise attached to all their wallets.  Seems pretty cool, and probably fairly safe for the company considering the cost of the wallet.  Meaning that your average guy won’t be spending over $100 on a wallet, so they can offer this.  As a company Braithwaite has lofty goals.  First, they want to create the most innovative wallets possible, they feel that most wallets are “boring”.  They also want to treat their customers with excellence.  They believe that having a good relationship with the person they sell to that things in the world will be better.  I find this admirable, but wonder how that really plays out for them.  I think the idea is good and expect that same kind of high level of customer service to come from www.myuniquewallets.com. I am unsure about the “promise” policy, but it has merit.  I will look into that more as well.

Coupon Wallet Organizer

Monday, April 19th, 2010

What a great way to organize your coupons!  Not only can you organize your coupons but these organizers hang from your shopping cart so that you can use your unique wallet while shopping.  At www.myuniquewallets.com there are alot of great designs that can be picked from also.  Another great place to find coupon wallet organizers is at www.thecouponwallet.com.  There is a great selection at the couponwallet.com.  The founder started on her own making a coupon organizer for herself.  This eventually was so well liked that she began selling the coupon wallets.  What a great idea to organize your coupons in a wallet size organizer that can hang on the grocery cart.  There are many great designs that are offered at www.myuniquewallets.com.  The most popular design is the black and white Purse Size Coupon Organizer Wallet.  It is mostly an off white color with a black sketched picture of a woman with her child.  There are many other popular designs for the Purse Size Coupon Organizer Wallet.  The next most popular designs are rainbow, striped pastel and brown with pink polka dots.  The great thing is that there many different kinds of styles so that you can find the wallet that best fits your personality.  Some other designs are brown with blue polka dots, paisley, butterfly and plaid.  If you are the type of person who likes to organize things, this is a great thing for you.  Do you have a friend or family member who is really into organizing things, likes to cut coupons?  What a great gift this is for that person.  Best of all you can pick from many different styles at www.myuniquewallets.com.  Even though the coupon wallet is not really a wallet in a true form, it still can be found on the uniquewallets.com site.  There is an “almost wallets” section that has items that are not fully wallets, but have the same idea.  Be sure to check the selection out.

Window wallets

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I currently have a wallet that is not really a wallet.  I have a folding leather peice that has a window on the front.  I currently use the window to slide small cards in and out with bible verses on them.  I like to use the window with the verses in them to remind throughout the day of the verse.  Often the verse will be the current memory verse that I am reviewing.  The little “wallet” I use is traditionally called a verse pack.  It has pockets on the inside for extra cards that have the verse on them.  For years I have kept my license, a few credit cards and cash (folded in half) in the verse pack.  They do not fit in the pockets on the inside because the verse pack is too small.  So they just sit in between the folded leather.  This has posed a problem or two of course.  My things can be prone to fall out of the “wallet” if I drop it or something like that.  I also have a to take a second to thumb thru the cards to find the one I need.  Although I don’t think I’m much slower than the average person at getting to the card I need.  I just have fewer cards.  I also don’t have enough room to hold the “extra” cards one might want to have.  Gift cards, membership cards (like video places), coupon cards and other identity cards I have to keep in a real wallet in my car.  I rarely use these type of cards, but there has been times when I have wanted one of those cards but didn’t have it with me because it was in my car.  I would love something that had a window but carried more cards and was actually a wallet.  I don’t want to give up my habit with the bible verses and I don’t want to carry two things (I already have to carry a cell phone too!).  I realize that not alot of folks would have a desire to have a wallet that has a bible verse window.  But maybe folks would like a wallet with a window on the front?  You could slide pictures in it?  Or maybe your favorite saying?  I am hopeful that www.myuniquewallets.com can offer something in the future that fills this idea.  Not much comes up when searching for window picture wallets.  But maybe….

Airmail wallets

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Another great idea from Dynomighty!  Visit www.dynomighty.com and check out the latest airmail wallets they have!  This unique wallet comes with the complete look of an airmail letter scrunched up in your pocket.  And although it has the look of an old airmail letter it is sturdy and will last a long time.  There is plenty of room in the wallet, a place for cash, credit cards and drivers license.  Everything needed to make a unique wallet practical.  The price is low too, even cheap.  This is a great gift for a mens wallet if your looking to find something unique to pass along to you significant other.  If you have any interest in mail, or the post office this is the wallet for you.  Remember the feeling of going to the mailbox as a kid?  Maybe you still feel a twinge of excitement, or of expectation everytime you go to the mailbox?  What a great reminder of one of life’s simple joys, the airmail wallet.  Remember the movie “Sleepless in Seattle”?  “You got mail!” became a hit line for years after.  All because of the interest we have in getting a message.  Who knows whats in your mailbox everyday?  But a short walk and you get to find out.  The airmail wallet is a great idea from Dynomighty to bring a little slice of that joy into your pocket.  Everyday when you pull out the airmail wallet you can reflect on the small, but precious, life joy of mail.  Airmail, no less!!  Another great place to check out the airmail wallet is at www.myuniquewallets.com!  In fact, www.myuniquewallets.com has all kinds of great unique wallets you can check out!

Heroes wallets? 24 Wallets? The Office wallets?

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Eventually our site, www.myuniquewallets.com will carry these things!  There are a number of tv shows that my wife and I love to watch.  They are the same shows that are most popular among Americans.  We are never able to catch the shows at their sloted times, our schedules are too busy.  However, we are able to rent the DVD’s of the shows and then watch them at night as we are getting in bed.  The only problem is that we are always a season behind everyone else.  So we have to keep people from sharing future details with us by accident.  I have always wondered why there weren’t more wallets designed in conjunction with people’s favorite tv shows.  When we’re young the only kind of wallet we want is a Barbie wallet or a Superman wallet.  We want a wallet that reminds us and others of our favorite things.  But if you search for wallets that are tv show related it is hard to find much.  I guess its because as we get older we are less into whatever we like and more concerned about how others might percieve our stuff, or us.

I think that people should be more diligent about being themselves and having things they want or like.  Every male wallet is essentially the same - leather color, bi-fold, tri-fold, etc.  Where’s the personality of the wallet holder?  We ought to be more into unique wallets, unique because each person is unique.  Your wallet goes with you everywhere, it is something you use probably only second to your cell phone.  Why not be more creative, show your personality thru your wallet?  Why not let go some of how others might judge you and just enjoy what you like?  I hope that the idea of having a unique wallet catches on more.  There are some out there, that’s for sure.  And I’m sure anyone reading this is already sold on this idea given the name of the site… but let’s encourage more diversity out there for something like our wallets!
