I guess thats not really a news flash. But to my 8 year old anything with the word magic attched to it has, well… a magical quality to it. Tinkerbell used her “magical” fairy dust to help Peter Pan fly. So it only makes sense that when our friend showed my daughter her “magic” wallet that she assumed it must have been touched with some type of tinkerbellian fairy dust! Well, after studying it for a few minutes she declared, “Magic wallets are not really magic”. How she came to that conclusion is beyond me, but she had a certain certainity about her voice that made you think that she had noticed something. I guess if one looks closely at the way a magic wallet is made they can begin to see the simple, yet ingenious design. Those two words might seem like an oxymoron, but I do not believe they are. Two sides of a wallet joined by interlacing stretchy rubber in a “X” fashion. Could anything seem simpler? Yet when they flip back and forth, they lift from one side to the other, allowing money, etc to be trapped in the wallet. I guess it does have a certain “magical” quality about it. I have seen friends play with them for long periods of time. They open and close them, putting in money or cards, or other things. They study it as if they are figuring out the magic, they are out to disprove the magic. Much like my 8 year old, who I guess did figure it out. I do not think that Tinkerbell made her rounds to the wallet manufacturers, so I think its safe to say they are just fun. Kind of like a rubiks cube or that game with the golf tees and the triangle peg board. Haven’t seen those in awhile…you would think restaurants would be smarter and get more of those. Check out the magical wallets that aren’t really magic at www.myuniquewallets.com. You might not see Tinkerbell, but they are fun to play with!

Heroes wallets? 24 Wallets? The Office wallets?
Tuesday, March 16th, 2010Eventually our site, www.myuniquewallets.com will carry these things! There are a number of tv shows that my wife and I love to watch. They are the same shows that are most popular among Americans. We are never able to catch the shows at their sloted times, our schedules are too busy. However, we are able to rent the DVD’s of the shows and then watch them at night as we are getting in bed. The only problem is that we are always a season behind everyone else. So we have to keep people from sharing future details with us by accident. I have always wondered why there weren’t more wallets designed in conjunction with people’s favorite tv shows. When we’re young the only kind of wallet we want is a Barbie wallet or a Superman wallet. We want a wallet that reminds us and others of our favorite things. But if you search for wallets that are tv show related it is hard to find much. I guess its because as we get older we are less into whatever we like and more concerned about how others might percieve our stuff, or us.
I think that people should be more diligent about being themselves and having things they want or like. Every male wallet is essentially the same - leather color, bi-fold, tri-fold, etc. Where’s the personality of the wallet holder? We ought to be more into unique wallets, unique because each person is unique. Your wallet goes with you everywhere, it is something you use probably only second to your cell phone. Why not be more creative, show your personality thru your wallet? Why not let go some of how others might judge you and just enjoy what you like? I hope that the idea of having a unique wallet catches on more. There are some out there, that’s for sure. And I’m sure anyone reading this is already sold on this idea given the name of the site… but let’s encourage more diversity out there for something like our wallets!
Olympic wallets
Monday, February 15th, 2010An easy design for a wallet would be an olympic designed wallet. Would people be interested in such a wallet? It is only once every four (or two if you count both summer and winter) and only lasts about two weeks. But if you look at the most popular shows on tv, the summer and winter olympics get really high ratings. So it is safe to say that many people are into the winter and summer olympics. But when the olympics are not going it might not be so cool to have an olympic wallet. What style might an olympic wallet have? Well an easy design would be the olympic rings on a wallet. Other ideas might be to have a winter olympic style or a summer olympic style. Like a wallet colored white, gray and blue for a winter olympic wallet. Of course an easy idea would be a wallet that could represent your favorite country, or your favorite athlete. Some winter olympic sports are more interesting than others. Some sports like hockey and downhill skiing are staples of the winter olympics. Figure skating has a large following, but not a very young or male following. Recently, extreme winter sports, like freestyle snowboard jumping have been getting more of a following. Not sure how you could do it, but it would be nice to have a wallet that matched your favorite winter sport on a wallet, or have something to do with the sport you like best. I am not sure what the big draw is for the winter olympics. I think that the country competition aspect just makes you want to root for your country in every event. So each event has a great appeal to it. The 15km freestyle cross country skiing is on today and there aren’t any Americans in the top 20 and so it’s not very exciting to watch. Guess thats the big draw. Would that same drawing power work with wallets?
The Magic Wallet
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010I know you have all frantically searched through your wallet looking for your card. Whether it’s a discount card, your local library card or your Discover credit card, the right one can be hard to find. This becomes especially difficult when there is a line of people behind you waiting for you to finish so that they can check out. Fortunately, the people at ACM Wallet have come up with a patented design to help solve your problem.
The ACM Wallet allows you to access a specified card at the push of a button. They sell a 6 card wallet and a 12 card wallet. Each wallet contains a card space feature that prevents your cards from demagnetization, scratches and premature failure of the magnetic strip. You simply press the labled button on the outside of your wallet, and the card slides out of a slot for you to grap and use. Each wallet comes with 18 interchangeable button icon pads. The buttons are printed with logos for your major credit cards, drivers license, gas, medical and more.
The original featherweight ACM Wallet is coated with a traditional aluminum brushed finish. The ACM HYBRID Wallet comes with a chrome top and black rubber gripper bottom. Now, the ACM Wallet comes in multiple colors by using the popular rubber polymer coating around the entire wallet. Go to www.acmwallet.com for more information.
I like the thought of this wallet in conjunction with a more traditional wallet for coins, checks and cash. It definitely beats panically searching for that one card in the midst of a rush!
Wallet Haiku
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010What exactly is a haiku peom? Well according to wikipedia its a three line poem. That simples simple enough.
“Wallets are the best things around
They keep your most important stuff in the same place
Wallets are the best things around”
That was simple enough. I wasn’t sure if any words needed to rhyme, so I made it easy and just used the same sentence first and last. Tricky, I know.
Tiger Woods Wallet
Friday, December 4th, 2009It looks like there are plenty of women attempting to fatten their wallets by going public with their various meetings with golf phenom, Tiger Woods. The National Enquirer was the first to disclose an affair between Tiger Woods and Rachel Uchitel. They discovered the two spent time together in Australia and that the Tiger Woods Organization paid for Ms. Uchitel’s travel. Rachel Uchitel has sought help from famous attorney, Gloria Allred. Sources say a press conference with Ms. Allred and Ms. Uchitel was canceled after money was offered by Tiger Woods to keep her silence.
Unfortunately, Rachel Uchitel is not the only accused of inappropriate relations with Tiger Woods. Jaimee Grubbs, a 24 year old Las Vegas cocktail waitress, has also spent time with Mr. Woods. Of course, various media sources claim there are many other women trying to add cash to their wallets. Only time will tell if there is any legitimacy to these stories.
It is a sad story. The supposed squeaky clean Tiger Woods is anything but! A beautiful wife is humiliated, maybe heartbroken. Two sweet children are scarred by the ugliness of selfishness.
Does fame & fortune buy happiness? Should we be striving so hard to fill our wallets? It just doesn’t seem to work.
New moon wallets
Saturday, November 21st, 2009I vaguely remember people talking about the first Twilight movie. But the craze over this sequel seems to be astronomically more than the first Twilight movie. The local theater here had every screen showing the movie at midnight the first time it could be viewed and every screen was sold out. Haven’t seen this kind of mass attendence for awhile. I can remember years ago before online movie ticket buying and better services theaters offer now the new movie lines. Movies like Star Wars would produce football feild length lines out the doors of theaters. This new moon craze is strong though. Although I am sure it’s mostly among the young generations, but it is still strong.
I am not sure if that will translate into alot of Twilight or new moon merchandise or not. But I did some looking into about what is available for wallets with new moon or twilight stuff on them. There was very little out there. Which is one reason why I’m thinking that this doesn’t really hit the wallet buying ages. There was one sight that had alot of “twilight” stuff, knick knack things with movie pics on it and stuff. They did have a wallet, and it was only $6. But the wallet looked like someone literally took an incredibly cheap wallet and glued a picture from the movie on it. The website did not really allow for an up close view, so it was hard to examine it (not a good sign). I guess as with everything you get what you pay for. It will be interesting if the new moon craze continues to grow. It is likely that alot of very young people have been packing the theaters this past weekend. But if the craze seeps into older generations then maybe the market for a “twilight wallet” will become stronger.
Flip “Magic” wallets
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009It seems the first flip design wallet that came out was in 2002, the Becko wallet. A company based out of Australia designed and marketed it. Since then there have been other designs, mostly smaller versions. The original design was about twice the size of a billfold wallet. Now there are designs that are billfold size. I think that most of the marketing and sales of the Becko wallet were due to its unique design. After awhile the practicality of a wallet like that wears off. It is almost like a “gag” wallet because it is hard to figure out. When watching someone open and close it you find yourself somewhat intrigued at how it works. You can watch a video of it at the Becko wallet website at www.becko.com.au
If I were going to get a “gag” wallet for someone this would be the gift. I can imagine a friend getting several weeks of enjoyment out of showing friends and playing around with the wallet. Becko tries to make the wallet as useful as possible, so it can be a fine permanent wallet. The Becko wallet also is made of nice leather, the same as other quality wallets. So it is durable and will last awhile.
There is a place you can learn to make your own wallet. At the DYI (Do it yourself) website. If you go to www.flipwallets.com you’ll find a selection of flip wallets. Some have termed them “magic wallets”, but again the magic willwear off after a little while. So if your looking for something unique, maybe some type of gag gift for a friend, or maybe just a gift that will have your friend engaged, the flip wallet is a good idea. The original Becko wallet is a little larger and a little more expensive than the smaller copies of the wallet. But either would work for a good option.
Football holdouts wanting fatter wallets
Friday, August 28th, 2009Our culture has created a huge mentatlity to fatten our wallets. There are still two NFL first round draft choices still unsigned by their perspective teams. Both individuals (and agents) holding out for more money than their team is offering. It’s good that we have banks and financial institutions because NFL players wouldn’t be able to carry around that kind of money, no matter how big the wallet was. Andre Smith, the sixth pick of the draft by the Cincinnati Bengals is one of the players holding out. Smith’s agent is convinced that his player deserves more money than the player he was drafted before, a WR for the Oakland Raiders. The problem is that the contract this WR got from the Raiders was disproportional to what other players were being paid in the first round. So the Bengals are unwilling to go that high. It is really a loser for everyone (but the agent) when this kind of holdout happens. The Bengals are wise to keep their money in their own wallets. They should not let agents have so much power. They do not have their players best interests in mind. I hope someone actually demands so much that they sit an entire season. Which might actually happen in the other holdouts case. Michael Crabtree was drafted with the 10th pick of the draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Once again the Raiders 7th pick WR is causing problems here. The agent for Crabtree is trying to say that his client should actually be paid more than the Oakland WR too!! They say that even though he was actually drafted AFTER the Oakland WR, that Crabtree is better and worth more because every major PRE-DRAFT WR ranking had Crabtree as better than the Raiders WR!!! They are basically saying that the Oakland Raiders were stupid to not pick Crabtree. The funny thing is that logic work against them too because if the Raiders were stupid to not pick Crabtree then it shows how stupid they were to pay their new WR too much money too!
All this to fatten our wallets. These guys would be better off worrying about the style and comfort of their wallets instead of fattening them.
